Parents & Carers
Parenting Together. You’re not on your own!
Sometimes parenting isn’t easy, so we want to look after our parents and carers at The Nook too! Depending on your time and needs, we have several activities available.
Chatty Hour
Every Friday during term time, 11:15-12:15 at Dude’s Cafe in Jessie’s Art Shed.
It's a time to enjoy a hot drink from our favourite, Dude’s Cafe, chat, catch up with old friends, and meet new ones. Once a term, we will host a themed Chatty Hour with a guest speaker who will discuss interesting and relevant parenting topics.
It's free, and no booking is necessary.
So sorry, but no kids. We love them, but this is our space to take a breather, make connections, and find friendship!
(There is a Parent and Toddler group at Jessie’s Art Shed every Friday morning in Shed 1 for those wanting to connect but unable to find a babysitter)
Therapeutic Parenting
Finding Your Path
A five-week introduction to therapeutic parenting.
Starting in October - The Nook at Jessie’s Art Shed - Tuesdays 7-8 pm
(October 8th, 15th, 22nd and November 5th and 12th)
Parenting is not a one-size-fits-all approach; what works for one child doesn’t necessarily work for another! Finding Your Path is designed and run by Ali, who has provided parenting support for several years at the Trauma Recovery Centre in Oxford. As a foster carer herself, she has experienced the benefits of therapeutic parenting.
This five-week course will introduce you to the basics of therapeutic parenting: what it is, how it works, why it works, and how it might suit you. There is no shaming or judgement; it is simply a great opportunity to meet other parents, be vulnerable in a safe environment, find support and encouragement, and consider which parenting approach may suit you and your family.
This course is open to anyone parenting a young person, including foster carers, kinship carers, grandparents, and more. You are all very welcome to join us.
£125 per person for 5 weeks.
Therapeutic Parenting is a gentle, empathetic approach to connecting with young people who struggle to regulate their emotions and behaviour for various personal reasons. It offers a wonderful way to build relationships and find hope.
