Alternative Provision
Our creative sessions are designed to provide young people struggling to attend school with an alternative provision. They combine creative writing and art to help build confidence and skills in a safe, calm space. The Nook is open Monday to Friday for groups and 1-1 bespoke creative sessions.
Every young person is unique, and at The Nook, we want to meet young people where they are at and, through creativity, build confidence, resilience, and the ability to move forward with hope. Some children may be struggling in school due to illness or a life event, and the smaller, calmer environment offered at The Nook may be the perfect way to help them process feelings and gain the strength and confidence to return to school. Some may be struggling due to developmental trauma or a neurodiverse diagnosis and may need regular intervention to build relationships and enjoy creative activities together over a more extended period. Whatever the reason, if we can meet the needs of the individual, we will happily welcome them to The Nook, if a space is available.
All our teachers are trained, DBS checked, trauma-informed, have experience working with and mentoring young people requiring an alternative approach to standard education, and understand the requirements of working with neurodiverse young people.
We are happy to work with schools, parents and carers to achieve the best possible outcome for each young person.
We are kind and inclusive and want every young person to have fun while creating and flourishing.
We are not therapists, but have experience and expertise working therapeutically with young people.
We have a small network of play and art therapists we can recommend if necessary.
If you would like to refer a young person, or a group of young people, to join one of the creative sessions at The Nook, please complete our ‘Getting to Know You’ form. Once we have received your completed form, we will contact you to arrange the next steps if we can help. Although we would love to help every young person referred to us, we are realistic and recognise that we are not equipped to help everyone. We will look at each young person and assess our suitability for them before responding. It would be helpful if you could provide us with as much information as possible on the ‘Getting to Know You Form’.
At The Nook, we believe creativity is a wonderful way to engage with young people who are struggling in school or with life events.
With the increased number of children absent from school due to emotional anxiety or life events we believe the small, calm environment offered at The Nook will provide them with the creative outlet necessary to process feelings and build confidence.
